Help me give up

How does the HSE give up smoking service work

These services provide information and support to smokers who want or need to give up smoking. They are usually free of charge from your local health service. Smoking cessation advisors are trained to help you give up using a variety of methods. Their advice and support can make a big difference to your success in giving up for good. These services use effective methods such as intensive one-to-one therapy support and group therapy support

An advisor will interview you and:

  1. assess how ready you are to quit,
  2. take your smoking history,
  3. assess your level of nicotine addiction,
  4. measure your carbon monoxide levels,
  5. look at how you can change your behaviour,
  6. provide one-to-one support, and
  7. recommend medical treatments.

It’s a good idea to check out the help available – you are much more likely to quit for good if you get support.

Why not start your quit plan today.

You can also order the HSE Quit booklet which has useful info to help you give up.
