About the HSE Tobacco Awareness Campaign
The Campaign’s aim is to get adults to quit smoking with particular focus on encouraging parents and guardians of children to give up smoking.
The Campaign objectives are to:
- motivate and encourage people to quit and think about quitting
- increase the proportion of those who quit
- get people to quit earlier
- get people to quit in the least number of attempts
- encourage people to think about quitting
- reduce the number of people who smoke
- encourage people to access HSE smoking cessation services, the National Smokers’ Quitline and http://www.giveupsmoking.ie

Television
This TV advertisement is designed to show parents that their smoking is a major influencing factor on whether their children smoke or not. It was recently developed by the NHS in the United Kingdom as part of their anti smoking campaign.

Outdoor Advertising
Two outdoor advertisements have been developed for display in bus shelter around the country.
Online
www.giveupsmoking.ie has been developed to support smokers who are thinking about or in the process of quitting. http://www.giveupsmoking.ie will complement the existing National Smokers’ Quitline service which is regularly advertised on national and local radio throughout the Country. The website provides information, advice and support for people wanting to give up smoking as well as access to a range of tools that enable smokers to develop their own quit plan.
